DIY Crafts

This year for Christmas we wanted to do something hand crafted for B. Originally, I wanted to do a puppet show. But he really didn't seem to get the concept just yet so I thought it would be a waste. We had picked up a plastic play kitchen at Growing Like A Weed resale in Clermont. Within 24 hrs my very energetic boy had managed to topple the kitchen over and stand on it in a conquering pose like King Kong on the empire state building. I knew at that moment that plastic just would not do!

I have posted a pic recently of our Armoire that we are currently painting. It originally had two stands that went on both sides that was taking up much needed space in the garage. Since the furniture was gifted to us by Hubs brother; we decided to give back to them. They have two small children around B's age so we figured we would use the wood to make kitchenettes for both our family and theres. It was originally Hubs idea. But halfway through the grit work; he forgot where the idea came from. Then he wasn't so excited about his idea lol. But towards the end it really became worth it because we learned that we do work well together and it was so much rewarding than having bought a set. So, below is the Kitchen for Bryton. There wasn't enough room on the front of the stove for the knobs so we made it look more like an old fashioned oven that would have its handles on the side.I still wish we had been able to put them on the front but it still came out as a great piece made with lots of love and creativity. What you see behind is Lily and Jacksons set on the sidewalk.

Bryton's second birthday party was a great opportunity to try out some of the fun ideas that had been brewing for a while. I started out wanting a Milk & Cookies party for him. But seeing that the intention was for us all to end up at the pool; it seemed to make more sense to just have ice cream. So, I ended up doing a Ice Cream Shoppe look.

I hand made the party hats & the banner. I used foam sheets because I thought it would be durable enough for a bunch of toddlers and the rough n' tumble G clan. I picked up foams stars for the hats and felt letters. We used thin ribbon for the ties on the hats. The banner is hung with simple brown twine. The Foam was easy to hole punch and what I like most about this idea is that since the party I have used the banner in Bryton's room as decor. It looks awesome with his new cowboy theme.

The cupcakes were easy enough. I wanted both sundaes and milkshakes for cupcakes. You can see for yourself this was as simple as can be but ended up having such a great look. To carry the look we added cherries and extra sprinkles to the table as well as swirly lollis, chocolate covered oreos and marshmellows dipped in chocolate and graham cracker. Those were especially popular with my nephews!
